Why Buy Local?

line

Did you know:

* “Food miles” ( distance a food item travels from the farm to your home) are 27 times higher for food bought at
the grocery store then food bought from local sources.

* a typical carrot travels 1, 838 miles to reach your dinner table.

* we import food from Mexico where they are permitted to use U.S., and Canadian banned pesticides that
have been deamed dangerous for our health. Improper use of pesticides can cause various forms of cancer
birth defects, miscarriages, sterility, learning disabilities, and death.

* on average 3.5 cents of every dollar you spend at the grocery store goes to the farmer.

* while many Canadian Pork Producers are on the verge of losing their family farm the grocery markets price
does not reflect the problem. Canada continues to import goods that are ready available in Canada such as pork.

* fresh is better for you - a week long delay causes sugars to turn to starches, plant cells shrink.

* Ontario Lamb is higher in protein, and lower in fat and calories than lamb from New Zealand.

* Support your local economy! We currently subcontract to local quilters/seamstresses to create our luxury wool products!
